Sexual Abuse

When institutions fail to protect people from abuse and assault, they must be held accountable. For more than 25 years, the founder of The Wilson Firm has stood with survivors and their families.

We offer free and confidential consultations, expert support and plaintiff-only representation at no upfront cost.

What happened to you matters. If you survived sexual abuse or assault, your experience is real, the harm is real and you are not alone in what you are carrying.

Many sexual abuse claims involve institutions, companies and platforms that failed to protect the people in their care. Religious organizations, juvenile detention facilities, rideshare companies, online gaming platforms, treatment centers and youth organizations may all be held accountable when abuse was enabled by negligence, ignored warning signs or deliberate concealment.

In many cases, survivors were failed not only by the person who committed the abuse, but by the systems that allowed it to continue.

The Wilson Firm stands with survivors, holding the institutions and companies that enabled abuse accountable for the harm they caused. We approach these cases with compassion, discretion and a deep understanding of how difficult it can be to come forward.

Institutions Failed to Protect You — That Failure Has Legal Consequences

When an institution has a duty to protect people in its care, failure to do so can give rise to a civil legal claim. This may involve a church that ignored reports of abuse, a juvenile detention facility that didn’t protect children in custody, a rideshare company that overlooked known safety concerns or an online platform that failed to prevent predatory behavior toward minors.

In many of these cases, the abuse was not an isolated incident. Lawsuits sometimes claim institutions concealed patterns of misconduct, protected perpetrators, discouraged reporting or failed to act despite repeated warning signs.

Coming forward can be extraordinarily difficult, especially when the abuse happened years ago or was never formally reported. A civil lawsuit is separate from the criminal justice system, and survivors may still have the right to pursue accountability, even if criminal charges were never filed.

Sexual Abuse Cases The Wilson Firm Handles

Abuse can come in many different forms within religious groups, centers, online platforms and more. If you or a loved one were harmed by an individual or by institutional misconduct, The Wilson Firm can help you find justice.

LDS Church Sexual Abuse Lawsuits

Growing numbers of survivors who experienced sexual abuse within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) are coming forward to seek justice. Claims rely on evidence that church leadership was aware of abuse perpetrated by clergy, church leaders and members, concealing it rather than reporting it to the authorities.

Lawsuits focus on demonstrating that the church prioritized its own reputation and institutional interests over the safety of members, including children. This failure enabled abuse to affect some communities for decades.

The Wilson Firm helps survivors of LDS Church abuse file civil claims. A civil claim is separate from church disciplinary processes or criminal investigation, neither of which offers direct compensation to a survivor or their family. Survivors do not need to have reported the abuse previously to pursue a civil claim.

Juvenile Detention Center Abuse Lawsuits

Young people in juvenile detention facilities are highly vulnerable to institutional abuse and assault. These cases involve a serious breach of duty because the state or private operator has taken custody of the child and is responsible for their safety. Survivors can hold these centers accountable.

Lawsuits often feature documented patterns of physical and sexual abuse by staff at state and privately operated juvenile facilities. In many cases, the abuse was reported and ignored, or actively covered up by facility leadership.

The Wilson Firm represents survivors of abuse in juvenile detention facilities, including adults who experienced abuse years earlier while in state or private custody. Statutes of limitations for childhood sexual abuse have been extended or suspended in many states, so claims may not be time-limited. However, timelines vary significantly by state.

Uber and Lyft Sexual Assault Lawsuits

Thousands of passengers have reported sexual assault and harassment by rideshare drivers working for Uber or Lyft, with both companies facing significant litigation from survivors.

These cases center on institutional negligence, arguing that the platforms created conditions that enabled assault. Lawsuits against Uber and Lyft often seek to prove that the companies failed to conduct adequate background checks, ignored patterns of reported assaults or prioritized growth over passenger safety.

With compassion and confidentiality, we help survivors file Uber and Lyft sexual assault lawsuits and hold negligent rideshare companies accountable. Survivors do not need to have filed a police report to file a claim, although documentation of any kind helps strengthen a case.

Roblox Child Exploitation Lawsuits

Roblox is facing several claims that it failed to protect its predominantly minor user base from predators. Lawsuits claim adults used the platform specifically to groom and exploit children and that Roblox didn’t do enough to protect young users.

Cases focus on proving that Roblox’s moderation failures, inadequate safety features and design choices created an environment where predatory behavior toward children was foreseeable, and that the company failed to take reasonable steps to prevent it.

The Wilson Firm helps the families of targeted, groomed or exploited children file Roblox child exploitation lawsuits. You don’t have to have reported the incident to law enforcement to pursue a civil claim against Roblox.

Your Rights as a Survivor

Many survivors struggle to talk about what happened to them and may remain silent for months or even years. Others may not immediately recognize that what they experienced was abuse or assault.

You may still have the right to pursue legal accountability, even if the abuse occurred years ago or was not reported at the time. If any of the following situations reflect your experience, you may be eligible to file a claim.

  • A member, leader, employee or agent of an institution that had a duty to protect you sexually abused or assaulted you.
  • A church, detention facility, company or online platform knew or should have known about the risk of abuse or assault and failed to act.
  • You were assaulted by a rideshare driver while using Uber or Lyft.
  • Your child was groomed, exploited or abused through an online platform.
  • The abuse occurred years or decades ago, and you are only now exploring your legal options.

Abuse and assault can occur in many settings and take different forms. If you believe you or a loved one may have experienced abuse, the team at The Wilson Firm can help you better understand your options. The first step is a free and confidential conversation to review your situation and determine whether you may have a claim.

Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Q&A: Understanding the Legal Process

I’m not sure what happened to me qualifies. How do I know if I have a case?

Many survivors are unsure whether what happened to them “counts” or whether an institution can be held legally responsible. If someone abused a position of trust, authority or access, and an institution, company or platform failed to protect you, you may have grounds for a civil claim.
Speaking with our team does not obligate you to move forward, but it can help you better understand your options in a confidential setting.

Will my identity and story be kept private if I contact the firm?

Yes. Conversations with The Wilson Firm are confidential, and we understand how important privacy is in these cases. Our team approaches every consultation with discretion and compassion, and we will explain what confidentiality protections may apply before any legal action is taken.

The abuse happened years ago. Is it too late to take legal action?

It may still be possible to pursue a claim, even if the abuse occurred many years ago. Many states have extended or changed laws involving childhood sexual abuse and institutional abuse claims, recognizing that survivors often need time before they feel able to come forward.
The best way to understand whether you may still have legal options is through a confidential case review.

What does pursuing a civil claim actually involve? What will I have to do?

Every survivor’s experience and comfort level are different, and there is no one-size-fits-all process.
An attorney’s role is to guide you through the legal process with clarity and support while handling the investigation, documentation and communication involved in building your case. You remain in control of your decisions throughout the process, and the legal team will explain each step before anything moves forward.
